If you want to give another person access to view your website data or help set up tracking, the quickest way is to add them to your Google Analytics account. This could be someone such as your web developer or ads manager. It only takes a minute.
Quick version
- Go to analytics.google.com and sign in.
- Click the Admin gear icon at the bottom left.
- Choose Account access management or Property access management.
- Click the + button, then Add users.
- Enter their email address and tick Notify new users by email.
- Choose a role. Editor is usually perfect. Administrator gives full control, including user management.
- Click Add. Done.
Full step by step guide:
1) Open Google Analytics
Head to analytics.google.com and log in with the Google (gmail) account that owns your Analytics. If you have more than one Google account, double check you are using the right one.
2) Go to Admin
At the bottom left, click the Admin gear icon. You will see three columns for Account, Property, and sometimes Product links.
3) Decide where to add them
- Account level gives them access to all properties inside your account. Good if you have multiple sites or apps.
- Property level limits access to one website or app. Choose this if you prefer tighter access.
4) Open Access management
Click either Account access management or Property access management.
5) Add user
At the top right, click the + button, then choose Add users.
6) Enter their details
Paste their email address into the box. Tick Notify new users by email so they receive the invite.
7) Pick a role
- Editor – recommended if they need to configure settings, conversions and integrations.
- Administrator – only if you want them to manage users too. Full control, including adding or removing users.
- Analyst – can create and share explorations, cannot change settings.
- Viewer – read only.
8) Click Add
That is it. They will receive an email and be able to access your Analytics.
Which role should I choose?
If someone is setting up or maintaining GA4 for you, Editor is usually the best balance of access and safety. If you want them to handle user access on your behalf, choose Administrator.
Troubleshooting
- You cannot see the Admin icon – you may not have permission on this account. Ask the business owner or current Administrator to add you as an Administrator or Editor.
- You cannot find Access management – make sure you have selected the correct Account and Property in the picker at the top of the screen.
- Invite not arriving – check the email is correct, look in spam, and confirm you ticked Notify new users by email.
- Wrong Google account – log out, then log back in with the Google account that owns your Analytics, often your work email.
How to change or remove access later
- Go to Admin then Account access management or Property access management.
- Find the user, click the three dots on the right.
- Choose Remove access or Edit roles and data restrictions.
